Spring Opening - Welcome
Spring is finally here and we welcome the chirping of birds and the melting of the snow. We are happy to announce the opening of the 2013 museum season. The museum will open on Saturday, April 6th and open each Saturday thereafter from 1 pm to 4 pm.
During the past three months when the museum was closed, volunteers continued to work, and much was accomplished. Special attentions was given to textiles in the collection to make sure they were properly stored with archival material. Much remains to be completed in that area.
The Ruth Hughes Memorial Library has discontinued collecting local obituaries. They donated their current collection to the museum. Those obituaries will be integrated into the nearly 5,000 already on file at the museum. We sincerely thank the Library for their kindness.

New Displays
Two new displays are available for public viewing at the museum. Stop by and take a look!
"Fashion in the Bag" - On display is a collection of vintage purses. The collection ranges nearly 100 years - from the mid 1800s Victorian Era through the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. The beaded Chatelaine bags would have been "hooked" into the waist on the skirt or carried like reticules with wrist straps. Included in the siplay is a 1950s Lucite purse, ladies compacts, and dresser suites. Several of the purses are made with Carnival glass beads. Many are made by teh Madalian Manufacturing Company USA, the Whiting & Davis Company, or marked "Made in France"
